(Challenge Run)
Start: Osaka Castle Park. Finish: Osaka City Hall. (Course does not meet official specifications, thus times will not be recognized for records).
Competition Rules The races are conducted in accordance with the FY2011 rules and regulations set forth by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF), the Japan Association of Athletics Federations for the Disabled (JAAFD), and the Osaka Marathon.
Time Limits Marathon: 7 hours; Challenge Run: 1 hour 50 minutes
  • *1 Time limits are based on gun time.
  • *2 Cut-off times are set at each checkpoint due to the limited duration of traffic control, security, and event operation. Athletes who fail to pass a checkpoint before cut-off time will be disqualified. Those who lag behind excessively may also be asked to leave the course at any time. Runners considered unable to clear cut-off times may be asked to end the race at a point other than a checkpoint.

Qualifications
1. Marathon :
i) Elite runners: Athletes registered with the JAAF
ii) General runners: Athletes not registered with the JAAF
* Categories i) and ii) are both open to men and women, including athletes recommended by the organizers from Japan and abroad, capable of completing the race within 6 hours 30 minutes.
* Category i) is limited to athletes registered with the JAAF as of FY2010 who also expect to be registered in FY2011.
* Visually impaired athletes who have difficulty running alone can participate with one companion (not a seeing-eye dog).

iii) Wheelchair race: Open to 30 men and women capable of completing the race within 2 hours 20 minutes in a racing wheelchair (in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by the JAAFD)
* Category iii) is limited to mobility-impaired athletes.
2. Challenge Run:
Athletes born on or before April 1, 1996
Open to men and women, including athletes recommended by the organizers from Japan and abroad, capable of completing the race within 1 hour 20 minutes.
  • * Challenge Run is limited to non-wheelchair users.
  • * Visually impaired athletes who have difficulty running alone can participate with one companion (not a seeing-eye dog).
  • * Competitors in the Challenge Run will start at the rear blocks.
Entry Fee
(Individuals)
Marathon :
From Japan: 10,500 yen; From abroad: 12,500 yen
(Entry fee includes a 500 yen donation to charity.)
Challenge Run :
From Japan: 5,500 yen; From abroad: 6,500 yen (Entry fee includes a 500 yen donation to charity.)
* Foreign athletes residing in Japan who do not speak Japanese may register at the English website for entrants from abroad. In such a case, however, the entry fee for applicants from abroad shall apply.

Apply via the Internet, the mobile site, or the dedicated money transfer form.
Select the top three charities of your choice <refer to Charities under Application Guidelines>.
* Please refrain from applying both as an individual and as a team member.

For application guideline pamphlets or dedicated money transfer forms, send the following to the Osaka Marathon Registration Center to arrive on or before Monday, February 21:
a) A note indicating your requested number of copies
b) Postage stamps (1 copy 120 yen; 2-3 copies 140 yen; 4-6 copies 200 yen; 7-10 copies 240 yen; 11-20 copies 390 yen)
c) Self-addressed envelope (240 x 332 mm)
* See below for the Osaka Marathon Registration Center address.
* Note that athletes applying via the dedicated money transfer form will be required to pay an additional 500 yen handling fee. Handwritten forms with omitted or illegible entries may be disqualified. Application via the Internet is recommended.
2. Period

    From 10:00 on Tuesday, February 15, to 17:00 on Tuesday, March 15, 2011
  • b) Dedicated money transfer form
    Postmarks dated between Tuesday, February 15, and Monday, February 28, 2011
3. Selection
Entrants will be selected by drawing if applications exceed capacity. Selection results will be notified by April 30. Note that additional selection results may be notified at a later date.
4. Payment
Selected entrants are required to transfer the entry fee to a designated account by a designated date. Failure to do so will constitute disqualification. Any transaction fee incurred must be bourne by the entrant.

Marathon: 100,000 yen per group
* Entry fee includes a 3,500 yen donation to charity and novelties for each team member.
* A team may consist of up to seven members. Note, however, that the entry fee is 100,000 yen per group regardless of the number of members.

1. Procedure :
One team may include up to seven members.
Upon selection of the top three charities of the team’s choice, one representative per team can apply via the Internet.
(Teams may not apply via the mobile site or the dedicated money transfer form.)
  • * Only athletes (ordinary runners) applying in Japan for the marathon may apply as a team.
  • * Athletes are prohibited from applying both as an individual and as a team member.
  • * All members of a team will start at the same block.
2. Period :
From 10:00 on Tuesday, February 15, to 17:00 on Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Awards
1. Marathon
a) Awards will be presented to the top eight men and the top eight women runners.
b) Awards will be presented to the top three men and women runners for each five-year age group (excluding recipients of the above awards; certificates will be mailed at a later date).
c) Awards will be presented to the top eight men and the top eight women wheelchair athletes.
* No awards are presented for the Challenge Run.
Check-in
  • 1. Dates: October 28-29, 2011 (Friday – Saturday, )
  • 2. Location: INTEX Osaka Building No. 2
  • 3. Time: 11:00-19:30 (tentative)
    • a) Note that check-in will be closed on marathon day (Sunday, October 30).
    • b) Check-in will be closed outside the hours indicated above.
    • c) Entrants will be required to present ID at check-in (substitutes are not acceptable).
    • d) Check-in for wheelchair entrants will be announced separately.
Other
  1. 1.Entry fees will not be refunded in the event the Osaka Marathon is cancelled due to reasons beyond the control of the organizers.
  2. 2.Athletes registered with the JAAF are required to submit their official FY2011 registration data by July 31 to allow for confirmation.
  3. 3.Entrants are expected to train sufficiently, receive a physical checkup, and otherwise be well prepared for the event.
  4. 4.The organizers will transport entrants’ baggage from start to finish locations. Note, however, that transport may be delayed due to traffic conditions.
  5. 5.The organizers will not be responsible for entrants’ tardiness due to traffic conditions on marathon day.
  6. 6.At the event, inluding on the course, entrants are prohibited from wearing or displaying logos or trademarks representing a company or product name for the purpose of advertising.
  7. 7.The organizers may permit the commissioned sale of photographs and other products.
  8. 8.For event-related matters not covered above, follow the instructions of the organizers.
  9. 9.Receipts for entry fees
    • Payment via credit card
      Receipts will not be issued. Entrants are asked to substitute the credit card company’s account or billing statement for an official receipt.
    • Payment via the dedicated money transfer form or a convenience store
      Receipts will not be issued. Entrants are asked to substitute the transaction receipt for an official receipt.
