Guidelines for Osaka Marathon Applicants

Osaka Marathon Application Rules

Applicants should agree to the following rules of application.

  1. If you do not support our charity program, please don’t apply to enter the event.
  2. Apart from providing emergency response measures, the organizers accept no liability whatsoever for sickness, loss, or other mishap.
  3. After applying you may not change or cancel your event for personal reasons.
  4. False declaration of age or gender, or entry by a person other than the applicant (fraudulent entry) will not be tolerated. If attempted, entry will be cancelled.
  5. If the event is cancelled due to an earthquake, wind or flood damage, snowfall, unforeseen occurrence, mishap, epidemic, or other such cause, no participation expenses or charges can be refunded.
  6. Once paid, no excess monies or duplication of payment can be refunded.
  7. The organizers own the publishing and portrait rights to images, photographs, articles, and applicants’ names, ages, and addresses (names of countries; names of prefectures and other administrative units; and names of cities, wards, towns, and villages) in relation to such media as television, newspapers, magazines, and the Internet during the period of the event.
  8. The organizers will comply with personal data protection legislation in handling the personal information of the participants.
  9. The event will be conducted in compliance with all related laws and regulations of Japan.
  10. The organizers will hold the event in accordance with the rules of the event as well as with the application rules.

Competition Rules The races are conducted in accordance with the FY2012 rules and regulations set forth by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF), the Japan Association of Athletics Federations for the Disabled (JAAFD), and the Osaka Marathon.
Time Limits Marathon : 7 hours; Challenge Run : 1 hour 50 minutes
  • *1 Time limits are based on gun time.
  • *2 Cut-off times are set at each checkpoint due to the limited duration of traffic control, security, and event operation. Athletes who fail to pass a checkpoint before cut-off time will be disqualified. Those who lag behind excessively may also be asked to leave the course at any time. Runners considered unable to clear cut-off times may be asked to end the race at a point other than a checkpoint.

Qualifications
1.Marathon: Athletes born on or before April 1, 1994
i) Elite runners: Athletes registered with the JAAF
ii) General runners: Athletes not registered with the JAAF
* Categories i) and ii) are both open to men and women, including athletes recommended by the organizers from Japan and abroad, capable of completing the race within 6 hours 30 minutes.
iii) Wheelchair race: Open to 50 men and women capable of completing the race within 2 hours 20 minutes in a racing wheelchair (in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by the JAAFD).
* Category iii) is limited to mobility-impaired athletes.
2.Challenge Run: Athletes born on or before April 1, 1997
Open to men and women, including athletes recommended by the organizers from Japan and abroad, capable of completing the race within 1 hour 20 minutes.
* Challenge Run is limited to non-wheelchair users.

Prize-giving
1.Marathon
(1) Prize-giving for the men’s and the women’s races, overall places 1 – 8.
(2) Prize-giving for the 1st – 3rd places in the men’s and women’s races in age categories of five-yearly increments.
*Certificates will be sent later (except for the prizewinners in (1) above).
(3) Prize-giving for the men’s and women’s wheelchair races, places 1 – 8.
2.Challenge Run
No prize-giving for this event.

Charity Program

We aim to improve the culture around charity by providing many of the people connected with the Osaka Marathon, including all participating runners, all spectators, and the volunteers, with an environment for participating in, and an opportunity for thinking about, charity. On entry, the participating runners will be invited to choose the theme they wish to support from the charity themes marked by the charity colors below.

To raise funds for charity, on entry each participant will be asked to make at least two contributions (each contribution is ¥500) as a donation to charity.
The funds raised will be donated to the charity theme the participant wishes to support.

  1. 1st charity theme: Please select one theme you wish to support from the above charity themes 1 – 7.
  2. 2nd charity theme: Please select a theme you wish to support from the above charity themes 1 – 8.

You may also apply to support more than one theme or make two or more contributions for each theme.

  1. The Osaka Marathon will be conducted in conjunction with charity programs.
  2. Entry fees will not be refunded in the event the Osaka Marathon is cancelled due to reasons beyond the control of the organizers.
  3. The Osaka Marathon will be conducted in compliance with all related laws and regulations of Japan.
  4. Osaka Marathon application guidelines and dedicated money transfer forms will be available for distribution in late March.
Privacy Policy The organizers recognize the importance of entrants’ personal information and will handle it in compliance with laws and regulations related to the protection of personal information, in accordance with the Osaka Marathon Privacy Policy. Any personal information submitted will only be used to provide entry guidelines, notices of records achieved and related information; services from Osaka Marathon contributors, supporters, and related organizations; and announcement of records (marathon rankings).
